RFA was FDA approved in 2018 and is becoming more popular in America for patients who want to avoid surgery or radioactive iodine and save their thyroid function.
It is safe, effective and less expensive than surgery.
Nodules can be reduced by 50-80% with one treatment.
How it works:
An ultrasound is used to guide a needle-like probe into the nodule that is requiring treatment, and radio waves are applied to the nodule to destroy the tissue. The surrounding thyroid tissue remains unharmed and fully functional.
