Endocrinology

Is the study of hormones, which are produced by glands, as well as the study of metabolism.

Endocrinologists are best known for treating diabetes and thyroids, but they manage so much more than that. Here’s a short list:

  • Bone disorders - osteoporosis, rickets, calcium disorders and more
  • Cholesterol metabolism
  • Obesity & weight loss
  • Tumors of the pituitary gland in the brain
  • Disorders of electrolyte and water regulation
  • Adrenal disorders - nodules, Cushing’s Syndrome or adrenal insufficiency
  • Polycystic ovaries (PCOS) and certain reproductive issues
  • Types 1 & 2 Diabetes
  • Testosterone replacement
  • Menopausal treatments
  • Thyroid - Hashimoto’s, Graves’, nodules and cancers
Endocrine System: Many glands make up the endocrine system. The hypothalamus, pituitary gland, and pineal gland are in your brain. The thyroid and parathyroid glands are in your neck. The thymus is between your lungs, the adrenals are on top of your kidneys, and the pancreas is behind your stomach. Your ovaries (if you're a woman) or testes (if you're a man) are in your pelvic region.
